What’s Happening

Herb Lessons 1

February 19, 2019 – Azalea District Meeting.  This meeting will be held right here in Social Circle at Magnolia Manor.  It is Molly’s last meeting as District Director, so an important event for her.   All Gateways officers are invited to attend.  Cost is $25 before February 12th.

February 20, 2019 – Capitol Conservation Day, Georgia State Capitol.  Some of the same issues we hoped would be dealt with last year are still with us.  Come join fellow garden club members as they educate our elected officials on matters of importance to our health and our environment.  Meet for a breakfast briefing at 7:30 AM at Central Presbyterian Church across from the Capitol.

February 25, 2019, 7:00 PM, Atlanta History Center – “Confessions of a Hydrangist,” a talk by Gary Starrett, owner of Beulahland Hydrangea’s Gardens and Nursery in Bolingbroke, GA.

February 27, 2019 – Basic Design Class, State Botanical Gardens, Athens.

February 28, 2019, 10:30 AM – Gateways Garden Club Meeting, Social Circle United Methodist Church.  Mr. Dexter Adams, UGA Director of Grounds, will be our speaker and he will help us untangle the many mysteries of pruning – a timely topic in early spring.  This is our Annual Business Meeting and new officers will be installed.  The design and horticulture for this meeting are easy!  The design is forced blooms and the horticulture is forsythia.  If you cut a sprig of forsythia and force the blooms, you’d have both!

May 3, 2019 – Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail Symosium, Plains, GA.   The featured speaker is Erica Glasener, well-known author and HGTV and Create TV host and producer.  Ernest Koone from Lazy K Nursery will be there,  presenting and selling his Rosalynn Carter Native Azaleas.  There will also be a plant sale with many native plants available.  This is expected to be a sell-out event, so garden club members need to register early.
